The Rabiglet

One night while in Cancun, our family are all patiently sitting - Actually, very wiggly waiting for our dinner to cook.  We are in an outdoor restaurant at Puerto Advantures, with a fantastic warm breeze in the evening air. It is a really pleasant “Christmas in Cancun” atmosphere. There are green and white Christmas lights swirling up palm tree trunks, also there are colorful lights hanging from welcoming restaurant doorways. Carter and I decide to go on a short walk to pass a bit of the time we have to wait.  We are walking down the softly lit pathway at the marina. Carter and I are holding hands and recalling the lovely events of the day. We walk pass the fishing boats at the doc. Then we stroll over to watch dolphins slowly swimming their evening circles and their evening sways in the water. Some of the dolphins are just floating along and sleeping. It is all so pleasant.

Suddenly – Carter burst with energy and goes running down the pathway! I think to myself: Awe, this is so cute. His little 5 year old body is bursting with joy!

Then, off in the distance I see a tiny little dog or something else that is hopping on the same pathway.  And it is headed towards us. My eyes quickly glance to Carter. He is blissfully unaware of the situation and joyfully running his path forward.

I start calculating in my head, these two will soon meet at the top of the bridge. I better speed up my pace so that I can be nearby at their time of meeting.         Just in case . . . .

The moment of their meeting is picturesque – At the top of the bridge, Carter dramatically twists his body to face this furry thing. At the very same time this creature turns its body to face Carter. They Stop! They Stare! And for 3 seconds 1 . . . 2 . . . 3  they are communicating by telepathic perception! Crazy, right? Then, they continue on their merry little way.

The furry creature quickly passes me, then bounces off into the bushes. Carter is left standing alone at the top of the bridge. He spins around to face me. Slowly he lifts his head, then settles his perplexed eyes on my eyes.  I see his brain trying to process what just happened. He comes running,  “Mom what the heck was that?”

I burst out laughing, “Carter, that was a Rabbiglet!” Without a moment of thought, Carter bounces into the bushes after the Rabbiglet because he has felt a new unexplainable connection to such a weird and friendly creature.

Carter finishes with,  “Mom that was the weirdest!”             –The End
