Christmas Eve Cancun Traditions

On Christmas Eve we had a great celebration in Cancun with our little family. We had a pretty traditional Cancun Christmas with a little added American style. We started off by decorating a little homemade Christmas tree on the wall (not a Cancun tradition). Then we got dressed up very nice for a fancy Christmas dinner reservation at Puerto Advanturas. We had a yummy turkey Christmas dinner. Then we came home and re-enacted the arrival of Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus into Jerusalem. We used the beautiful and creative landscape of the hotel we were staying at to be apart of our Jerusalem with some added candles. It was really fun. Then we set up a legit Pin' yata in the yard and wacked at it forever – it was a beast to tear apart. The kids found fun Cancun treasures. Then we walked over to the beach to send glowing luminaries into the air over the ocean for Jesus' birthday. The wind was a bit to strong, so it was kind of a disaster and they all blew out and ripped to pieces. But it was still fun to be out in the dark trying to keep with our tradition, knowing that our grandma, uncles, aunts, and cousins wherever they were . . . were also lighting their luminaries for Jesus' birthday. As we moved into our hotel to retire for bed we all found a single gift waiting for each of us to open on Christmas Eve (again not a Cancun tradition). We all received a new pair of Christmas Pajamas, and a Christmas Covid mask for our flight.
