Little Angles

Little children truly come from heaven and they continue to be so close to heaven during their young age.  It was so neat to be reminded of that closeness tonight. My little 4 year old Sam asked me an interesting question tonight. As this question came from my innocent young child something reminded me that I should answer him very clearly. Because he was ready to reflect upon every word that came out of my mouth.
Just a few minutes before bedtime, Sam was curled up in his comfy pajama's , sitting on the couch very quietly when he asked this very sincere question . . .
"Will we die?"
me: "What do you mean?" (as I am quickly evaluating the nature of his question)
Sam: "Will we die?"
I answered him and said yes we will die one day. He asked, Why? I said, because we are not supposed to live on earth forever. Then I went into deep detail about the greatness of Heaven. I told him that our Heavenly Father loves him so much that he wants him to come to live with him and our family in heaven.
I continued to emphasis how much Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ love Sam. I explained that we lived in heaven with Heavenly Father and we are his spirit children. Our Heavenly Father has a body and he wanted us to have bodies too so he came up with a plan for us to come to earth to get a body. Our spirits came from heaven down to earth to be with our bodies to learn and grow. When we die our body will be buried in the ground and flowers will be place on the top. Then our spirit will go up to heaven. Heaven is the most wonderful, most beautiful place ever. There is no sadness, no sickness, and no badness. You will only have happy feelings in heaven and there will only be good things in heaven and that is so wonderful.
Sam said, "I don't like that place"
I asked "why?"
He said, "because I will never come home"
I said, "when you get to heaven you really wont miss anything because your home and family will be with you in heaven. Heavenly Father loves you so much. What he really wants is you to come home so he can love you and hold you and hug you, because he loves you so much! You know how I love you so much. Even more than you can understand. I love love love you! Well Heavenly Father and Jesus love you so much more. Heaven is the most wonderful place ever, and you will love it.
Sam started to understand in a small sense but then he began to really cry hard.
I asked him, "what makes you so sad?"
he said, "but i will be dead"(with real sadness all over his face)
I went on to explain, "You body will die but your spirit will never die. Your spirit is the most important part of you. Heavenly Father loves you so much that your spirit will never ever die. You body will die and your spirit will go to heaven. And when you are resurrected your body will come back together with your spirit and live forever. That is called Eternity! Your body and spirt will live together for Eternity.
It seemed that Sam was beginning to understand little by little. Then I noticed he was crying a little bit still.
I asked him,"do you believe me, do you believe what I have told you about heaven?"
he said, "yes" (with a small smile)
then I asked, "why are you crying?"
he said, "I don't even know"
I asked, "are you feeling better know?"
he said, "yes, I don't know why I am crying"
I continued explain to him that he was feeling the Holy Ghost. I said,  "The Holy Ghost is telling you in your heart that what I am teaching you, is true. The Holy Ghost helps you to know what is true. And it is teaching you right now that everything I have said is true. It is really neat that you are feeling the Holy Ghost right now.
I thought it was a wonderful opportunity to point out the feelings of the Holy Ghost. And as far as I can tell this was the first time Sam truly felt and recognized the Holy Ghost teaching him.
I went onto explain to him about receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost when he is 8 years old after he gets baptized. I explained that after he receives the Holy Ghost, it can always be with him to teach him what is right. The Holy Ghost can visit you too. And it is so neat the you are feeling the Holy Ghost and that it is teaching you what I have told you is the truth.
I am so grateful and blessed this evening to be able to have this conversation with my sweet Sam. I am grateful for the Holy Ghost in my life. It is one of the most sacred and precious gifts in my life and I am grateful for my Heavenly Father who loves me and guides me. He has given us His plan of Happiness and I know that if we seek after good things and strive to do what is best, follow our savior Jesus Christ, and seek to know the will of God we will be blessed.
I am grateful for my little angles Sam and Luke. It is such a blessing to be their mother and to learn the things of the spirit through my little angles who came from heaven not to long ago.
