Swiggle – Our New Lizard

This is our new Bearded Dragon named Swiggle – Dragon #4. I has been wanting another Breaded Dragon ever since we've moved to our house. We now live near a pet store so buying crickets isn't a hassle. Basically we are walking to the pet store weekly anyway. For a couple years I was convinced that visiting the pets was good enough, until I saw Swiggle. Swiggle was born in January, just like Luke. We are going to say Swiggle and Luke share a birthday January 24th, 2012. His beautiful coloring is what caught my eye. We decided it would be super fun to buy a pet for Sam. We have always loved Bearded Dragons and besides we are storing all the gear and a billion tanks. We are equipped to have another Dragon! We bought Swiggle in July.

Twatch – Dragon #3 

Twatch was sort of named after Dragon #2. Twatch lived with us in the 4-plex in Provo. He was  a good lizard, part of the family, he was our friend. When Twatch was a little lizard he was very healthy because he ate his veggies. When Twatch got older he got very sick, and we don't know why. We did all we could to try and help him. For sometime we fed him pureed vegetables from a medicine syringe. We had to face up to the inevitable. So James decided to think like a lizard, then he asked himself . . . Would I rather be put down in an animal hospital? or Would I like to experience total freedom for one more day?

Scratch – Dragon #2 - 

Scratch was named this because of his ferocious claws (FYI it is not fun to clip lizard claws). Scratch was with us through the beginning of our marriage, he was our first pet together, and he was with us for a long time. He lived with us in our first apartment in St.George. He moved with us to our apartment on 33rd,  then to our apartment in James' parents basement, then to Carolyn's basement, then finally to the Beasly apartment in Provo. Scratch lived a long and healthy life.  He grew to be a full grown Beardie. Scratch loved to hang out in the tree just outside our apartment (with supervision of coarse). Then scratch started getting to expensive for us. We loved our lizard but it was time to part ways. We sold Swatch to a very nice pet store, they were super excited to take our huge Bearded Dragon.

Spazz – Dragon #1

Angie's first Bearded Dragon was purchased in St. George while living at Dixie Cove. Bearded Dragon #1 was named solely because of personality. It's a bummer his picture is lost. Spazz was a very friendly lizard. He spent lots of time looking at Angie and keeping her company while she sat at her desk studying for school. He was a good example, he required that she buy vegetables for him. Spazz died while Angie was in Salt Lake visiting her family and her roommate was taking care.

Things we have learned over the years:

1. Don't put sand in the tank until the lizard is about 1 year old.

2. Don't feed spinach or iceberg lettuce to a bearded dragon.

3. Don't feed a dragon too much fruit. Maybe once every 2 weeks.

4. Food offered to the dragon shouldn't be larger than the distance between his eyes- measuring across the top of his head.

5. Beardies absorb water through their skin during their once a week water soak, and they get water from the veggies they eat. It's very rare if you see a Beardie drink from a water bowl- but always have it available.

6. Bearded Dragons are very entertaining in front of a mirror. But don't tease them to much!
