In the Clear

Today is a good day. We went in for another ultrasound and a non-stress test. I am maintaining the same low amniotic fluid level, which is ok as long as it doesn't drop any more. The baby's heart rate continues to beat strong through contractions and his movements are very regular. In fact, he is a super active boy during these important tests – talk about putting on a show and looking good when it's most important.
The purpose of the ultrasound today was to measure fluid levels and to measure the baby's growth. Our baby was labeled "a mystery baby" today. This baby continues to pull enough nutrients from the possibly weak placenta and he continues to put on more weight. Our little baby is still growing, yay!
The doctor told us that our baby is in the clear. He is measuring just under 5 pounds, is 34 weeks along, and he has a well developed brain, kidneys, bladder, and lungs. If I were to go into labor today, tomorrow, or in 2 weeks the doctor would not be stopping the labor because the baby is very healthy and he would be just fine. If he was born this early, he might need to be placed under a heater for a while until he can maintain his own temperature, and he might have a little trouble eating at first but he would learn quickly and be just fine.
I know it's best for my baby to stay inside my belly as long as possible. I totally root for full term healthy fat squishy babies. I also can't help but feel a bit like . . .  I just want to hold my baby now to see that he is so healthy, I want these complicated and stressful tests to be over, and I want to get out of bed to be a fun, helpful and useful mother and wife again.
